CRX opened for business with just two associates, no office and only one customer who took a chance on what we had to offer. In 2001, we set out on a path to create an occupational prescription eyewear company that actually functioned like an industrial distributor – what our customers were accustomed to from a regular MRO vendor, not just another lab that simply sold safety prescription eyewear in the same manner as their regular “dress” lenses.
Unlike some of the national and chain-store labs, we felt it was possible to let the customers tell us how they wanted their programs structured by giving multiple billing options, off-site or on-site services, flexible schedules and a much more simplified plan of total program management. We knew we would not be successful if we followed the same old routine of trying to get an industrial customer to fit in the standard wholesale ophthalmic setup every other lab seemed to be using; simpler put, we just listened to what our customers asked us to do instead of a giving them one prepackaged RX program.
After celebrating our first decade of business, CRX has grown to be one of the largest prescription safety lens labs in the country while at the same time successfully expanding our services to the wholesale ophthalmic “dress-wear” market. Our staff has grown from two associates with no office to over twenty full-time associates and three locations including a customer service center, optical shop and prescription lens surfacing laboratory.
Although our size has definitely changed, our core guiding principle of letting customers tell us how they want their program managed has not wavered as we have grown. All of the CRX associates know that this is how we became successful so quickly and what guides us to this day.
